Ordinance Targets Rising Costs Of Controlling Pet Population

The taxpayers’ cost of controlling the pet population in McAllen increased from $263,000 in 2008 to over $367,000 in 2010. In an effort to reduce costs, the City of McAllen passed a revised animal ordinance that encourages sterilization of pets along with incentives to pet owners. The revised pet ordinance is posted on McAllen.net, in the City Focus section.
Anyone who has questions about the ordinance can call the city attorney’s office at (956) 681-1090 or the McAllen Police Department’s animal control division at (956) 681-2124.
