McAllen's 28th Candlelight Posada Set For Dec. 3 & Dec. 4

From the McAllen Chamber of Commerce:

The McAllen Chamber of Commerce and the City of McAllen Parks & Recreation Department are gearing up for the 28th Annual Candlelight Posada to be held at Archer Park on December 3rd & 4th. The committee is continuing its hard work looking for sponsors, volunteers, parade entries, and vendors interested in participating this year.

Non-profit organizations who are interested in being vendors at this year's Posada are encouraged to fill out an application and get it in to the McAllen Chamber of Commerce before November 12. We will have over 30 food booths at this year’s event selling items such as fajita tacos, funnel cakes, buñuelos, hot chocolate, and roasted corn just to name a few.

Schools, businesses, and organizations are highly encouraged to build a lighted float and participate in this year’s parade.

“Due to bad weather we had to cancel last years parade but the year before last we had over 90 parade floats, each extremely unique and artistic. Everyone always does a wonderful job and we’re excited to see what’s in store this year,” said Greg Schuller, Cultural Arts Director for the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. “We are looking forward to having many entries in this years Lighted Parade, one of the highlights of the Candlelight Posada.”

In order to make Candlelight Posada a success, the committee is also seeking partnerships with the local business community. This is a great opportunity for businesses to show their support and promote their business as well. Candlelight Posada has been a part of Christmas in McAllen for over 27 years and a lot of people in our community look forward to it and see it as a Christmas tradition. This makes it a very positive event for businesses to get involved in.

This year's event kicks off with a lighted Christmas parade on Main Street and the lighting of the Mayor’s Christmas tree on Friday night and continues throughout the evening with plenty of entertainment for the entire family. Teen Town and Little Town are big attractions for teens and small children with plenty of games and activities. On Saturday night, the community joins in singing along with the nativity procession of the re-enactment of Mary & Joseph seeking shelter. Musical entertainment will follow through the afternoon and evening for the entire family.

Obtain information on applications for parade, vendors, volunteers and sponsors to Greg Schuller at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. For more information, please contact Greg Schuller at 956-687-2787 or gschuller@mcallencvb.com.
