National Hispanic Entrepreneurs for Leadership in Politics calls event a success
HELP aims to build political awareness, civic engagement
MCALLEN, Texas — The newly formed National Hispanic Entrepreneurs for Leadership in Politics (HELP) had a successful first event on July 27 at Osuka restaurant in McAllen, Texas. Over 100 guests attended the gathering eager to learn more about the organization aimed at building political awareness and civic engagement amongst the Hispanic Community.
“National HELP understands that Hispanic votes count, which is why we are taking a non-partisan approach to promoting political action and voter participation among Hispanics,” said JC Cervantes, founder and president of HELP. “With the great turnout we received from our first event, we know that this is as important to us as it is to the community. We are looking forward to meeting new people and growing this organization.”
Historically, the Hispanic community has been underrepresented. It was until the 2008 presidential election that an increase among Hispanic voters was seen.
“This organization will address the need for political involvement and civic engagement. In these tough times, it is imperative for us to take a step back, look at the key issues facing our community and interact with Hispanic leaders amongst us to build discussion about leadership in our government,” added Cervantes.
National HELP will be hosting a luncheon on Aug. 27 at the Club at Cimarron in McAllen. Details are being arranged.
