The giveaway, forelementary students headed back to class, will be held at the McAllen Police Department, Wednesday, August 19, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
"We are ready to help kids in our area with the school supplies they need to start another school year," said McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez. "If you know of a child that needs help in this way or if you just want to help with supplies or otherwise, come see us."
The City of McAllen provided school supplies to children last yearafter Hurricane Dolly left families with limited means of providing for their children's back-to-school needs. This year, because of the recession, Chief Rodriguez and the City decided to help families, again.
