VIPERS HOLDING OPEN TRYOUTS IN HOUSTON AND EDINBURG

MCALLEN, TEXAS – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced on Thursday that prospective players can tryout for the team on September 24 in Houston and October 9 in Edinburg.

The tryout on September 24 will run from 9:00 a.m.-to-4:00 p.m. at The Village High School at 2005 Gentryside Drive in Houston.

The tryout on October 9 will run from 9:00 a.m.-to-4:00 .m. at the University of Texas-Pan American Fieldhouse.

Both tryouts will be run by Vipers assistant coach Jai Steadman.

The cost for trying out is $150 by the Friday before each tryout and $200 at the door. Prospective players can pay in advance by calling Analee Flores with the Vipers at (956) 972-1144 or by stopping by the Vipers Pro Shop at 4500 N. 10th St. at Uptown Plaza in McAllen. Those paying in advance can pay by cash, cashier’s check, certified check or credit card. Those paying at the tryout must pay by cash, cashier’s check or certified check.

Registration forms can be found on rgvipers.com. Prospective players should e-mail their completed forms to Steadman at jaisteadman@yahoo.com. Prospective players with questions should contact Steadman directly at (225) 394-4930.

The Vipers invited three players to training camp out of their open tryouts last season. The most notable player from an open tryout to play for the Vipers is Craig Winder, who hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer in Game 2 of the 2010 Finals to clinch the Vipers’ first championship.
